Canine Capers and Animal Antics 2009 was a wonderfully sunny day to have an outdoor event. With many events going
on during the day and lots of charity stalls to browse, bouncy castle and food, there was lots to do for
the animal lovers. T.A.R.R.S had a wonderful day, with my family running the stall and selling the items and
the volunteers walking a couple of the dogs around with their hi-viz jackets on, we were hard to miss! Angus and
Leo were the perfect doggy companions for the day, being sniffed by lots of other doggies and being fussed by their owners
and lots of people without dogs also taking an interest.
Leo stole the show by winning 'Most Handsome Male' out of 40, yes 40, other canine contestants with his handler Richard, I
don't mind admitting that my eyes were full of happy tears and very glad I was wearing sunglasses so no-one noticed and went in
the ring to promote the rescue. It amazes me all the time that both Leo and Angus were both unwanted dogs, one
an unclaimed stray and one a gifted dog that never got walked, both were bombproof that day. The amount of young children
who came up and hugged both dogs, adults that touched every bit of their bodies, gave them biscuits, the amount of dogs that
they came into contact with, the fact it was a hot day, they both ate and drank together and not a murmer from either
dog.
Who would not want a dog that can go to a show full of people, dogs and children and be calm, gentle, friendly and WIN
in the show!!!
Angus won his very own prize of a mars bar, which wasn't given to him, but sneakily taken, and was very happy
with himself. In my eyes they both won that day for being 'Most Well Behaved Dogs'......not to bad for dogs that
no-one wanted.
A special THANK YOU must go out to the volunteers for all the hard work and effort for the day, the promotion
of the rescue and dogs and for generally being there when you need them. In no particular order...Becky, Richard, Beth,
Wendy, Sam, Amber, Mum, Dad and Mia (my dog) who was such a good girl all day. Not forgetting Myra and
Carole who were running their own stall in aid of H.A.R.K and A.B.C and Kerri, who was at the kennels cleaning
the other rescue dogs while we were out for the day.
Hopefully next year T.A.R.R.S will be bringing more dogs along to the show, mainly to promote the charity but also
to prove that having a rescue dog dosen't mean owning a problem dog, as we most definately proved with our two stars,
Angus and Leo this year. We hope to see you there.
