In October 2011 The Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Society formed a partnership with Pets at Home, Rugby Branch.  It has been a marvellous boost to the end of the year with wonderful donations of dog and cat food supplied by Pets at Home and the wonderful customers who have donated items also.  Most of our dog food donations gets shared between the rescue and the stray dog pounds around Warwickshire so every homeless animal gets fed while waiting to find a rescue or new home and you have helped us achieve that goal. Our donated cat food is a massive help to the rescue as we have been inundated with so many cats and kittens this year, you have helped them stay happy.

"Thankyou very much for helping save these animals lives"
Sophie - Founder of The Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Society (also known as TARRS) .

Cats settle into their new temporary home Annie in action

The urgency to take in unwanted cats has never changed since the rescue started taking cats and kittens in the rescue last year but without the foster homes we have only been able to take a few at a time.  In September 2010 Waitrose of Alcester raised some much needed funds for TARRS and a decision was made to put it towards something that will benefit the cats and kittens that desperately need help and refuge.  A new cat pen was designed and hand made for the cats and kittens in TARRS care so that they can stay in a comfortable, spacious, heated and mentally stimulating environment until foster homes or forever homes can be found for them.  The pen can either be divided into two sections, making room for 2-3 cats or kittens to share each section with enough room to move around and play or hold a family of cats and/or kittens with a ramp leading to the two sections for ultimate fun and comfort.  The cat pen cost £1,000 to make and is collapsable if needs be.  Waitrose donated £464.00 towards the costs which helped tremendously.

Here are some picutures of the cat pen when it first arrived and when the new residents arrived.  On the top layer is Annie and Alfie and on the bottom is Riley.

The cat pen was made locally in Warwickshire by Tim Allington of Steel Creations.  The pen was designed specifically to the cats needs providing comfort and enjoyment and the pen now benefits from raised corner units.  Tim is experienced in ornate custom metal fabrications for contemporary and traditional metalwork.  If you have any questions or would like to know more about Tim's work, he can be contacted on 07923 472610 or 01926 819086.

Canine Capers

Clover wins first prize!Canine Capers and Animal Antics 2010 was another wonderfully sunny day again to have an outdoor event.  With many events going on during the day and lots of charity stalls to browse, bouncy castle and food, there was lots to do for the animal lovers. TARRS had a wonderful day, with my family running the stall again and selling the items and the volunteers walking a couple of the dogs around with their hi-viz jackets on, we were hard to miss!  Some of the rescue dogs came along and mingled in the crowds and entered the shows.

Clover was entered into the 'Best Cross Breed' competition, where she came 5th place.  We were absolutely delighted, she and all the other dogs were perfect once again.  The amount of young children who came up and hugged all the rescue dogs, adults that touched every bit of their bodies, gave them biscuits, the amount of dogs that they came into contact with, the fact it was a hot day, they all did extremely well and I was proud to have such good rescue dogs as representatives of TARRS.

We had some wonderful people come and visit the stall again, many from last year but also a familiar face...Angus!  Angus came with his new family and was very happy to see us all again, he looked amazing! I get to hear all about Angus and his antics from his mum who despite developing separation anxiety, they are working through it and will come out the other side with a dog they will never forget.

Maisy asleep in her mum's arms!A special THANK YOU must go out to the volunteers for all the hard work and effort for the day, the promotion of the rescue and dogs and for generally being there when you need them.  In no particular order...Becky, Richard, Beth, Mum, Dad and Mia (my dog) who was such a good girl all day again.

We are hoping next year will be another success for TARRS will be bringing the dogs along to the show, to promote the charity and also to prove that having a rescue dog dosen't mean owning a problem dog.  We hope to see you there.
